Maria Telkes was a Hungarian-American biophysicist and medical researcher who made significant contributions to the fields of solar energy and thermodynamics.

Born in Budapest in 1885, Telkes studied at the University of Frankfurt before moving to the United States in 1911. She earned her doctorate from Columbia University in 1915 and went on to teach at both the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Wellesley College.
