40 Plus Pac Man Quotes You Need To Read

Pac-Man was first released in 1980 by Namco Limited, a Japanese arcade game maker. Iwatani Tohru, the lead designer, wanted to make a game that didn't focus on violence. Iwatani felt that Namco might market an arcade game that appealed to girls by paying close attention to themes, design, and colors. In contrast to the shooting of space aliens and other opponents that dominated most arcade games at the time, the game concept was inspired by food and eating. Instead, players used a joystick to navigate a simple maze, devouring colored dots until they were all gone, finishing a level, and moving on to the next maze.

The core character, which resembles a miniature pizza with a piece cut out for the mouth, was given the name Pac-Man because paku paku refers to the snapping of a mouth open and shut in Japanese slang. On each level, a gang of four "ghosts" attempted to catch and eat Pac-Man; the roles of predator and victim were briefly flipped when Pac-Man ate special "power pills" scattered around the maze.

Pac-Man immediately became a worldwide phenomenon, with over 100,000 systems sold in the United States alone, easily making it the most successful arcade game ever.

Players were preoccupied with inventing specific pathways for Pac-Man to follow after learning that the ghosts moved in patterns. The sheer amount of stages (256) added enormous complexity to the hunt for the ideal game, counteracting the seeming predictability. (In 1999, a Florida resident became the first person to achieve this feat by scoring 3,333,360 points in a six-hour session.)

Pac-Man has a greater cultural impact than any other video game due to its original design. Popular songs, a cartoon television series, merchandise, and magazine articles, as well as countless versions and imitations of the game for every electronic gaming platform, appeared on best-seller lists in the United States, followed by popular songs, a cartoon television series, merchandise, and magazine articles.
